Avalon Headlight Buying Guide (2018–2022)
A split year, then a flagship redesign
2018 was the last year of the 4th-generation Avalon (XX40); the 5th generation (XX50) arrived for 2019 and ran until Toyota discontinued the Avalon after 2022, replacing it with the Crown. Two distinct headlight fitments — 2018 and 2019–2022 — and none interchange.
| Year Range | Generation | Headlight Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 4th gen (XX40, final year) | Halogen projector on base trims; LED on upper trims |
| 2019–2022 | 5th gen (XX50) | LED headlights standard; flagship sedan; discontinued after 2022 |
The flagship sedan owners keep forever
The Avalon was Toyota’s biggest, quietest, most comfortable sedan — bought by owners who keep cars for a decade or more. That loyalty is now an opportunity: long-term owners replacing lighting face thinning dealer support for a discontinued flagship, and this correctly-scoped collection — with almost no SEO competition — is the page they should land on.
Halogen vs. LED
The 2018 used halogen projectors on base trims and LED on upper trims. The 5th generation standardized LED headlights across the range. Upgrading a 2018 means a complete LED assembly — never LED bulbs in the halogen projector.
Avalon Hybrid
The hybrid shares all lighting with its gas sibling — fitment follows the model year, not the powertrain.

Is the Avalon discontinued? Can I still get headlights?
Yes — the Avalon was discontinued after 2022 (replaced by the Toyota Crown), but aftermarket headlight availability for 2018–2022 is stable and fully supported.
