Ford F-150 Tail Light Buying Guide (2009–2017)

Year range first, always

F-150 tail lights are not interchangeable between the two designs in this collection. The 2009–2014 tail lamp has a different shape, lens design, and connector than the 2015–2017 unit. They look similar at a glance — check the year range, not the photo alone.

Year Range Tail Light Notes
2009–2014 Incandescent standard; LED-style appearance options available; no BLIS
2015–2017 Redesigned lamp; LED on upper trims; BLIS blind-spot radar available

The BLIS trap — 2015–2017 trucks, read this

On 2015–2017 F-150s equipped with BLIS (Blind Spot Information System), the radar sensor is mounted inside the tail light assembly. Installing a tail light without BLIS support will trigger blind-spot warnings and system faults on your dash. How to tell: trucks with BLIS have the indicator in the side mirror. Every BLIS-compatible unit in this collection is marked — filter for it if your 2015–2017 truck is equipped. (2009–2014 trucks did not offer BLIS, so this does not apply to them.)

Incandescent vs. LED

Most of these trucks came with incandescent tail lamps; upper 2015–2017 trims moved to LED. Replacing like-for-like is the safe path. Full-LED aftermarket assemblies are a popular upgrade, but confirm they are DOT/SAE compliant for road use in your province.

Driver side, passenger side, or pair?

Tail lamps are side-specific. Replace one side if only it is cracked or moisture-filled; do both if the lenses are equally aged — mismatched brightness is noticeable at night and at resale inspection.

Checklist before ordering

  • Model year — 2009–2014 vs. 2015–2017 decides everything.
  • BLIS or no BLIS — on 2015–2017 trucks, the most common (and most expensive) ordering mistake.
  • Incandescent or LED — match factory spec, or upgrade with a compliant LED assembly.
  • Side — driver, passenger, or matched pair.

Match all four and the part bolts in with factory connectors — no splicing. All orders ship across Canada with 30-day returns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will 2012 F-150 tail lights fit my 2016?

No. The 2009–2014 and 2015–2017 tail lights have different shapes and connectors and are not interchangeable.

My 2016 truck has BLIS. Does it change which tail light I need?

Yes — this is the most common ordering mistake. The BLIS radar lives inside the tail light, so you must choose a BLIS-compatible assembly, or you will get dash warnings and a non-working blind-spot system.

Can I upgrade from incandescent to LED tail lights?

Yes, with complete LED assemblies designed for your year range. Confirm they are DOT/SAE compliant for road use in your province.

Should I replace one side or both?

One side is fine if the other is in good shape. Replace the pair if the lenses are equally hazed or aged, so light output stays matched.

How fast is shipping within Canada?

We offer fast shipping across Canada, and every tail light is covered by our 30-day return policy.
