RAV4 Headlight Buying Guide (2018–2026)
Three generations — including a brand-new one
The RAV4 turned over twice in this range: 2018 is the final year of the 4th generation (XA40), 2019–2025 is the 5th generation (XA50), and 2026 is the all-new 6th generation (XA60). That is three completely different headlight fitments, and none interchange. A 2025 headlight will not fit a 2026 despite the model name being identical.
| Year Range | Generation | Headlight Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 4th gen (XA40, final year) | Halogen projector standard; LED on Limited |
| 2019–2025 | 5th gen (XA50) | Halogen projector on LE/XLE; LED projector on XLE Premium and above |
| 2026 | 6th gen (XA60, all-new) | LED standard; entirely new design — aftermarket catalog still catching up, verify fitment |
Hybrid? Same headlights.
One thing that does not change the fitment: the powertrain. The RAV4 Hybrid uses the same headlight assemblies as the gas model of the same year and trim. Order by year and trim — not by hybrid vs. gas — and you will get the right part.
Halogen vs. LED by trim
On the 5th generation, LE and XLE trims came with halogen projector headlights (with LED daytime running lights), while XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and Limited moved to full LED projectors. Match your factory type for a direct replacement, or upgrade the whole assembly — never LED bulbs in a halogen projector.
Driver side, passenger side, or pair?
Assemblies are side-specific. The RAV4’s 5th-gen headlights are among the most replaced in the segment — stone chips on highways and winter road debris take their toll. If one lens is pitted and the other is aging the same way, do the pair for matched output.

- Hybrid or gas — does not matter; same part.
- Trim lighting type — halogen projector vs. LED projector.
- Side — driver, passenger, or matched pair.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will 2022 RAV4 headlights fit my 2026?
No. The 2026 RAV4 is the all-new 6th generation (XA60) with completely different headlights. 2019–2025 (5th gen) assemblies do not fit it.
I have a RAV4 Hybrid. Are the headlights different?
No. Hybrid and gas models use identical headlight assemblies within the same year and trim. Order by year and trim only.
Is a 2018 headlight the same as a 2019?
No. 2018 is the 4th generation (XA40) and 2019 is the 5th generation (XA50) — different headlights entirely.
Can I upgrade my halogen headlights to LED?
Yes, with complete LED assemblies designed for your generation. Do not install LED bulbs into the factory halogen projector.
